Definition of participating faculty
Beyond direct teaching responsibilities, a participating faculty member actively and deeply engages in the activities listed below.
§Decision making/policy making participation
§Administration (leaders, managers like dean, vise dean etc. manage and conduct services for other faculty).
§Participating in faculty recruitment and development (e.g., new faculty orientations, etc.)
§Serves on departmental or School level committees engaged in faculty governance
§Engages in the life of the School or some major academic issue of the School beyond teaching (e.g. attends Department/School/University meetings or events) every week
§Supervising/tutoring students (e.g., competitions, innovation projects, papers and theses beyond the normal classroom) twice per month
§Advising students regarding career planning or student organizations monthly
§Participating in academic/scholarly activities (including acquiring competitive grants, publishing papers, attending academic conferences etc.)
§Serving academic research/international exchange/teaching organization affairs
lDefinition of supporting faculty
In contrast, a supporting faculty member has little engagement in the School’s activities beyond the instruction/ supervision/teaching work, and carries relatively low-level involvement with faculty governance and the School events, etc.
